Meet the team

CEO & CIO

Josh Hile CFA, CPA

Prior to Citizen Mint, Josh was the Director of Investment Strategy & Research at Laird Norton Wealth Management, a $16 billion registered investment advisor (RIA) headquartered in Seattle, WA. He was instrumental in developing, maintaining, and improving LNWM’s impact and sustainable investing capabilities for both public and private markets. He was further responsible for worldwide sourcing, ongoing due diligence, and the monitoring of all equity asset managers as well as real estate, private equity, private debt, and venture capital opportunities. Prior to this, Josh worked at Russell Investments performing due diligence on fund managers for Russell’s mutual fund and consulting divisions (Russell advised on $2.2 trillion). Josh has a B.A. in Business Administration and an M.B.A. from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. In addition, he is both a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

CTO

Marshall Dunford

Before joining Citizen Mint, Marshall worked as a software engineer across various industries and guided multiple projects from concept to millions of active users. As employee #7 at MedBridge (200+ FTEs), he worked closely with the CEO and led the Patient Engagement team, building a core product used by healthcare professionals and patients throughout the country. In other roles, he has led initiatives to increase scalability and security, integrate large enterprise systems, and build marketing funnels across a range of mediums. Marshall has a B.S. in Informatics from the University of Washington.

Alyssa Luttrell — Director of Operations

Prior to joining Citizen Mint, Alyssa was an Investment Business Manager at Laird Norton Wealth Management, where she supported a $16 billion RIA by driving operational efficiency across the investment team. She coordinated projects, processes, and communications, and partnered closely with the CIO to improve collaboration and implement solutions that enhanced client service. Earlier at LNW (previously Laird Norton Wealth Management), she worked as an Operations Specialist, overseeing alternative investment operations and contributing to firm-wide initiatives. Alyssa brings deep experience in investment operations, client service, and process optimization to her role as Director of Operations at Citizen Mint.

Board Advisors

James Barber

James was most recently the co-CIO and Head of Private Investments at Alberta Investment Management Co (AIMCo) where he partnered with a global team to manage the $170bn investment program. At AIMco he had direct responsibility for overseeing the existing $50bn+ Private Asset portfolios and reviewing all new investments across Private Equity and Venture Capital, Infrastructure and Renewables, Real Estate, and Private Debt and Loans. Previously, James was the CIO, Equities at Russell Investments, managing $100bn+ in global multi strategy equity investments. He has worked in South Africa, USA, UK, and Canada in various investment roles over the past 25+ years and is a keen private investor, a founding partner of AMP Investment Partners and More Than Capital Advisors.  James holds a BSc. in Statistics and Economics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, an MBA from University of Witwatersrand and is a CFA Charterholder.

Dominique Carrié

Dom is an Investment Manager at Ceniarth, a family office focused on impact-first investments globally. She leads due diligence and monitoring on a range of deals, from direct to fund investments, to deliver positive impact for underserved and vulnerable populations. She started her career in asset management before moving into the impact space. Prior to joining Ceniarth, she was a Manager in the international development team of Social Finance UK, working on innovative finance solutions and designing outcomes-based financing structures. She is currently on the board of the Impact Hub London, a social enterprise supporting start-ups in the climate and diversity & inclusion space. She holds a MSc Finance degree from London School of Economics and an MBA from London Business School.

Ken Willman

Ken has over 30 years of experience in global financial services as a lawyer and senior executive. He is the former Chief Legal Officer of Russell Investments where he was responsible for the Compliance, Global Risk Management, Government & Community Relations, Internal Audit and Legal Departments.  Ken led Russell Investments’ preparations to become a signatory to the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investment and was active in its diversity efforts. Prior to joining Russell Investments, Ken spent 16 years with Goldman Sachs in London and Hong Kong which included serving as General Counsel of the Investment Banking Division and General Counsel of Asia-Ex Japan. Ken serves on the boards of Covenant House International, the University of Puget Sound, and The 5th Avenue Theatre. He holds BA and BS degrees from the University of Puget Sound and a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he also studied at The Wharton School.

Justin Kowalchuk

Justin has over 20 years of experience in financial markets as an investment banker and consultant for organizations in the U.S., Japan and throughout Asia. Justin launched Oracle’s Financial Services Application services in Japan, and was on the founding team of Merrill Lynch’s Structured Finance group in Tokyo. Subsequently, he was a Director at Dresdner Kleinwort Asia, serving the group’s online business and derivative business expansion. Upon returning to the U.S., Justin founded MedBridge, an Inc 500 company with the mission of elevating the affordability and quality of health care.  He served as a board member of the Boyer Children’s Clinic in Seattle and holds an MBA from The Wharton School.

Larry Hile

Larry was previously an audit partner at Deloitte and head of the Technology, Media, and Telecommunication (TMT) practice for Washington State. He was also the chair of the Fast 50 and Fast 500 program for Washington, recognizing the fastest-growing companies in the state. Larry has vast experience across numerous industries and was responsible for overseeing all venture capital, clean tech, software, hardware, internet, life science, and telecom clients in Washington. In addition, Larry was a board member for private cloud provider Blue Box which IBM successfully acquired in 2015.
